Extramural Award – Outside Duke

Broad Extramural Award

Eligibility: Young or established NON-DUKE investigators proposing new, rather than existing, research.
 
Next Grant Period: July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2012
 
Submission should include the following:
  1. Applicant's curriculum vitae.
  2. A one to two page proposal stating the nature of the research project, a description of the work to be done, the potential impact of the knowledge gained and its relationship to Alzheimer’s Disease.
  3. A detailed budget form describing how the funds would be spent on the project.
  4. A copy of the applicant's organization’s most recent determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service stating that the organization is exempt from federal income tax.
It is the policy of the Foundation that no more than 10% of the annual award be apportioned to the institutional overhead costs. The Foundation also requests recognition on any publication emanating from funded research.

International Award – at Duke

Broad International Award
 
Eligibility: Postdoctoral fellows, of non-U.S. origin, in the neurosciences.
 
Next Grant Period: July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2013
 
Submission should include the following:
  1. Letter of application that includes:
    1. the laboratory of interest
    2. a description of your research background
    3. the nature of the research you would like to pursue while at Duke
  2. Applicant’s curriculum vitae.
  3. Letters of recommendation from your current faculty sponsor and from your current department chair.

Intramural Awards – at Duke

Eligibility: Current Duke graduate student in the neurosciences, preferably in their second or third year of study. (A Graduate Student is exclusively defined as either a PhD or MD/PhD Candidate)
 
Next Grant Period: July 1, 2010 – June 30, 2011
 
Submission should include the following:
  1. Applicant's curriculum vitae.
  2. A one to two page proposal of the research work to be done, and how it is related to the underlying biology of nervous system disease. Please title the project.
  3. A letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor. Please indicate in this letter the applicant’s year of study.

Eligibility: Current Duke postdoctoral fellow in the neurosciences, preferably in their first or second year of study.

  2. A one to two page proposal of the research work to be done, and how it is related to the underlying biology of nervous system disease. Please title the project.
  3. A letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor. Please indicate in this letter the applicant’s year of study.

Broad Faculty Scholar

Eligibility: Current Duke University School of Medicine faculty member. 
 
Next Grant Period: July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2013
 
Submission should include the following:
  1. Applicant’s curriculum vitae.
  2. A one to two page proposal of the research work to be done, and how it is related to neurodegenerative disease.
  3. Using the budget form or format, please project how the award dollars will be utilized to support your research. Ten percent of the Broad Foundation funding will be attributed to indirect cost, as noted on the budget form.
